Özgür Balkılıç
I graduated from Middle East Technical University in Turkey in 2003. I completed my M. A. degree from the same university from an interdisciplinary programme, Cultural Studies in 2005. I then entered the Ph. D. programme of Department of History at METU, where I focused on the historical sociology, working class and state formations, historical capitalism and Marxism and history.
I entered the Tri-University Graduate Program in History in 2010. My major field is World History (Prof. Jeff Grischow) and my minor fields are Cold War History (Prof. Eva Plach) and Canadian Labour History (Prof. Robert Kristofferson). My dissertation topic is Contentious Politics in Turkey: Strikes, State and Capital, 1960-1980. The dissertation is being supervised by Prof. Gavin Brockett.
