Dr. Jeff Grischow teaches and researches in the areas of Global History, African History and Comparative Development Studies. His recent monograph, Shaping Tradition: Civil Society, Community and Development in Colonial Northern Ghana, 1899-1957 (Brill, 2006), challenges the invocation of civil society as a tool for building community in the name of development. Other publications include a study of tsetse control in Northern Ghana and an investigation into the historical context of social capital. Within the Tri-University program, Dr. Grischow teaches in the Race, Imperialism and Slavery field.
