This page provides the information needed to register in University of Guelph, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University courses offered in the Tri-University Graduate Program in History.

Course selection and registration in the program is a two-staged process involving pre-registration and registration.  None of the History courses at the University of Waterloo, the University of Guelph, or Wilfrid Laurier University are open to self-registration other than through the Tri-University pre-registration process.  To determine the dates of pre-registration, please contact the graduate administrative assistant in your department.

Prior to pre-registration, please make a list of your course preferences.  For a complete list of Tri-U MA courses, including information about timing and location, please see the Tri-U program’s upcoming course offerings.

To pre-register, you need to log on to and make selections from the Tri-University Course Pre-Registration Site. By doing so you reserve a space in courses at any of the three campuses (University of Guelph, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University); this gives students at one campus the same access to courses at any of the others.  Later, you will need to formally register at your home institution.

When pre-registering, please pay attention to prerequisites. All prerequisites are listed in the individual course descriptions on the Pre-Registration website. If you pre-register for a course without enrolling in its prerequisite, you will be dropped from that course. No student may enroll in the “thesis” course without permission of the graduate officer in your home department. Any student enrolling in the “thesis” course without prior approval will be dropped from that course.

Students should enroll in the number of courses each term appropriate to their stream of study and the speed with which they want to complete their degree. For more information, you should read the MA program handbook available on the Tri-University website or consult your university Graduate Program Calendar.

After pre-registration closes, please register in the classes you have selected.  For classes at your home university, please do so in your university’s course registration system.  For classes at one of the other universities, please register by filling out an Ontario Visiting Graduate Student form, which is available on-line from the Graduate Studies office at your university (OVGS Waterloo) (OVGS Guelph) (OVGS Laurier).  Please note that if you decide, in changing courses, to drop a course at another university in which you are already registered, you must fill out an OVGS form to drop it.

Instructions on Using the Tri-University Graduate Program in History Pre-Registration System

To pre-register for your courses:

  1. Go to the Tri-U History Pre-Registration tool during the pre-registration period (to determine this period please contact the graduate administrative assistant in your department).
  2. Log in using the Email and Password that was provided to you.
  3. Select or delete yourself from classes.
  4. Confirm your selection.
  5. Go to “Your courses,” print a copy of your selection and keep it for your records.
  6. Revisit the site as often as you like during the pre-registration period and make any changes you deem necessary.
  7. Please do not change your assigned email or password. If you have to change an email or password login, notify the graduate administrative assistant in your home department and notify her of the change so that we can continue to access your file.
