My dissertation research examines Canadian immigration policy after World War II. Historians often emphasize the nativism and racism that traditionally characterized immigration policy. Although those elements are significant, I am exploring other influences – domestic, international, and economic – on immigration policy, to determine whether changes implemented in the post war period suggest a more planned and deliberate policy direction than has previously been recognized.
