The Tri-University Professional Development Seminar is designed to provide first-year doctoral students the opportunity for professional development, defined broadly, for success in the program and in academic and non-academic careers afterwards.  It also serves to bring the first-year cohort together, and to put it in touch with senior PhD students who are encouraged to attend sessions of interest to them.  Faculty, alumni, and senior students reflect on their experiences in relation to topics such as: conferencing, teaching, publishing, applying for grants, research trips, collaboration, the digital historian, postdoctoral fellowships, and non-academic career paths for PhDs in History.
